Children’s Dialogue: C-SPACE 2025 Advocates for Preventing Online Child Sexual Violence in Asia by Youth

Medan, PKPA Indonesia  – Youth activists from the Philippines, Nepal and Indonesia are uniting to combat online child sexual violence (OCSV) through a groundbreaking initiative. Recognizing the urgent need for youth-led solutions, this collaborative effort aims to raise awareness, empower children and young people, and advocate for policy improvement towards improved protection of children from the growing threat of online child sexual violence.

“Empowering our peers to build protective skills online and becoming safe in the digital world is our main agenda.” – Group of child activists from Nepal, Indonesia and the Philippines

The initiative focuses on the youth to spearhead creative campaigns to educate their peers, families, and communities about the dangers of OCSV, including online grooming, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and sextortion. Youth activists will engage with policymakers, legislators, and relevant organizations to advocate for stronger legal frameworks, increased online safety measures, and improved access to support services for victims of OCSV. They will collaborate with local organizations, schools, and community leaders to foster a collective response to OCSV and create safer online environments for children.

Through a series of consultations, youth leaders created the digital asset to raise awareness on both the positive and negative aspects of the digital world. The Digital Asset will be launched on 06 February 2025 from 11:00am to 12:00 noon at the Tribeca Function Room, 3rd Floor, Astoria Plaza, Pasig City.

To contribute to the celebration of Safer Internet Day 2025, we conduct C-SPACE (Children’s SafeSpace) afterward. C-SPACE is a regional children’s dialogue platform that empowers children to voice their experiences and concerns about the digital environment. Through this program, children will share their advocacy messages on the benefits they derive from digital spaces and highlight their unmet digital rights. The dialogue also provide valuable insights into the implementation of the UNCRC General Comment No. 25, which focuses on children’s rights in the digital world.

This international youth-led movement represents a significant step towards creating a safer digital world for children. By amplifying youth voices and empowering young people to take action, this initiative aims to inspire positive change and make a lasting impact on the global fight against OCSV.

The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General on Violence against Children in a message to mark Safer Internet Day, commends once again the children and youth, “their enthusiasm, innovation, creativity, and commitment are amazing.”
